My basement main support is beginning to sag. I have a 7’H x 30 Sq. ft. basement that I’m in the process of making into a living space however I need to move the vertical supports(to gain space) of the main support (two 6”X6”X15’) supported in 3 different places. Being how I need to move the vertical supports and the fact that the 6”X6”X15’s are already sagging I’m thinking it’s a good idea to go on and replace the two wooden supports with one 6”X6”X30’ I-Beam and using 3 vertical supports on the I-Beam. One at each end and one 2’ off center. This will give me the open area that I’m looking to gain in the basement. What are the pros and cons to this approach?
