I have four window cutouts in a newly erected foundation wall with out any pockets for a header. The opening is 42" wide by three courses of block deep. My floor trusses are spaning the area (w/ no posts or load baering walls) perpendicular to these openings. The trusses are 24" O.C. and will fall on these openings. I am wondering if something like 1/2 " thick by 6" wide steel bar stock overhanging and attached 4" on each side is adaquate for header material in this aplication. I plan on letting this steel header into (under) the 2x6 sill plate covering these windows. The project is a full two story addition on top of a full basement. Thanks for any suggestions, Mike O.
