Finishing basementFrom: arrnns@none.com Category: Carpentry and Framing Remote Name: 64.83.223.150 Date: 12 Feb 2003 Time: 10:34 AM
CommentsI am finishing off my basement and am having trouble coming up with a good solution to a problem. My house is a bi-level house, so the blocks only go up to about waist level in the basement, on top of that is the 2x6 exterior wall. The blocks are about 10 inches thick, so that leaves a 4-inch ledge. I am having trouble coming up with a good way to frame this ledge so I will have something to nail drywall to.
The lower portion of the wall is a 2x4 energy wall in front of the blocks. The energy wall has a top plate, which is plenty to nail to on the front, but the back corner has nothing to nail to. The energy wall extends about 1.5 inches above the top of the blocks, so I could put a 2x4 against the block and nail the sheet rock to that. Another option a friend suggested is to use cornerback for the back corner. I have not been able to find a solution I am satisfied with, any suggestions?
