Re: Floating Floor Outlet in SlabFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: Electrical/Lighting Remote Name: 203.51.22.89 Date: 05 Jan 2003 Time: 03:36 AM
CommentsSlabs are routinely cut into in order to add electrical conduits, gas lines, and other plumbing. However, this can be tricky. You don't want them to cut the rebar or other structural reinforcement, since this could comprosmise the slab's structural integrity in the area. If you think you can live without the plug in the middle of the floor, we suggest you forget it and have the builder make it up to you on another "extra" somewhere else in the home. However, if you have your heart set on it, and then it may also be possible to "tunnel" beneath the slab altogether using a high pressure water jet. Contractors use this technique for installing sprinkler lines and electrical conduit below grade. You'll still need to cut a hole in the slab to install a 90-degree sweep, but this will be less disrputive than cutting into the entire slab. Builders Websource.
