Running heat ducts to new addition

I am adding on a 20'x28' addition to my existing home. When I framed the floor I made sure the floor joists (2"x10") lined up with the existing joist so I could run heating ducts to the new addition by just cutting through the rim joist. After further thought I began to wonder if cutting through the rim joist would cause any structural problems to the existing wall which is sitting on the rim joist. This is a load bearing wall. I calculated that I will have to cut through over half of the bays between the floor joists for heating ducts and return air. If this is a problem I will have to purchase a separate furnace for the addition. Thank you for your help, Jim
