I'm buying/moving into an 1835 cape with badly rotted support beams. The sills are in perfect shape but the two primary support beams that run from from front to back under the house are being supported only by a series of poorly done repair jobs over the past 150 years. Evidence of this beam damage is apparent throughout the house - sagging/sloping floors and uneven door jams and ceilings. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this themseleves. If so, how was it repaired and how much should I expect to pay? Was there "collateral" damage as the problem was fixed from any jacking?
