Header sizing for a kitchen remodleFrom: ssolan@adelphia.net Category: Structural Remote Name: 24.55.18.130 Date: 25 Nov 2002 Time: 04:09 AM
CommentsI would like to know if a 4 x 12 standard header would be suitable for the following: 14 ft. span, single story home, attic space above supporting 8ft. ceiling joists from kitchen area, asphalt roof shingles. The home was built in 1948 and their are only a few 2x4's supporting the immediate roof area right now. Location is Los Angeles area.
Also, would it be acceptable to "notch" out room for a ceiling fixture in the header (about an inch & a half deep?
Thank you.
S Solan
