Is it possible to create a vaulted ceiling with the removal of the ceiling joists and sistering 2x8 or 2x10 to existing 2x4 truss? The roof pitch is 4 and 12. Do i need a a ridge beam or are collar ties sufficent? The span of the truss is 36.8 inches and the home is 56 feet long. I am sure a calculation can be made as to what size rafters to use based on the span. I am also going to leave the rafter tails as they are and birdsmouth the new rafters to the perimeter top plates of the blcok walls. Any suggestions, or is this not a good idea other than buying expenisve trusses and alot more work...thanks
