Given your 20-foot span, you'll need either a glulam, or PSL beam, such as a TJ Parallam or equivalent. We ran a quick calculation using the following assumptions: 20' span, 10' tributary width, 25 psf live load, 40 psf dead load (for a 65 psf total load), TJ Western Species Parallam. With these assumptions, you'd need at least a 5-1/4" x 18" 2.0E TJ PSL to keep dead load deflection to about 0.30 inches at center span. Please note that your conditions may vary. This is just an example to illustrate that you will need a substantial beam to span 20 feet with no center support. We urge you to consult with a licensed structural engineer who can evaluate your actual conditions and specify the proper beam size, column size, joining methods and foundation support. Furthermore, this assumes that the moisture content inside the barn is lower than 16%. Engineered lumber is not usually rated for service in high moisture situations, unless specially treated with wood preservatives. Builders Websource.
