CommentsAny time you remove CMUs from an existing retaining wall, you want to be careful not to damage the portion of the wall that's to remain intact. If there is truly no rebar in the columns (which may or may not be the case), you may be able to use a circular saw with a diamond blade (or masonry blade) to score deeply along the grout line where you want to make a clean break. Do this on both sides of the wall. Then, with a sledge hammer, carefully try to knock loose the blocks. If you're having trouble, there may be rebar, in which case you may have to jack-hammer out the blocks and cut the rebar with a bimetal blade. Builders Websource.
