You just had your bathroom tile replaced by a large company and want to know whether the tile is supposed to go behind or in front of the raised lip on the edge of the tub. Assuming the tub is flush against the wall, generally the face of the tile will end up being in front of the lip on the tub, allowing approximately a 1/4" gap between the edge of the tile and the tub itself. Then use a matching silicone caulking to seal the joint against water penetration. Usually, the combination of the drywall and mortar bed or backerboard is thick enough to bring the wall surface at least flush with the the lip. Then you install the tile. If the vertical plane of the tile was installed behind the lip, or recessed behind the lip, then the job wasn't done properly in our opinion. The job should look clean and well proportioned. If you're not satisfied with the result of your installation, immediately contact the company that did the job and request a supervisor to examine it first hand. If it's not done to your satisfaction, you deserve to have the job redone properly. Builders Websource.
