You plan to build a 20'x 20' cabana near your pool and want to know if a floating slab is a suitable foundation. The soil is sand and you live in Ontario, Canada. Certainly, a steel-reinforced slab with an integral perimeter footing would provide sufficient load-bearing strength for your cabana. However, you should check with your local building department to determine the required depth of your perimeter foundation, which may need to go below the frost line. Builders Websource.
