Re: paint vs vinyl sidingFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: Painting and Wallcoverings Remote Name: 63.198.181.43 Date: 24 Jun 2002 Time: 11:01 PM
CommentsDepending on the condition of the existing aluminum siding, painting it is probably cheaper than installing new vinyl siding. However, if your budget allows it, we always prefer a unified look for your home. A mixture of siding types looks like poor planning and is not aesthetically pleasing. Plus, replacing it to match gives you an opportunity to add a little insulation in the process. The half-inch of insulation isn't much, but it's better than the non-insulated aluminum siding. Metal is an excellent conductor of heat, making it a poor insulator. Vinyl is superior and requires virtually no maintenance except for periodic cleaning with bleach to prevent mildew. Do no use a high pressure water stream to clean vinyl siding. It can pit the surface of the siding, creating an ideal place for mold to grow. Builders Websource.
