Re: cinder block wall repairFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: Other/Misc Remote Name: 63.198.181.43 Date: 17 Jun 2002 Time: 12:51 AM
CommentsTo repair your cinder block wall, carefully remove all loose blocks. This assumes the wall is not filled solid with grout. Next, carefully chisel off remnants of grout between the joints. TO rebuild the wall, you'll need to purchase some bags of grout. Mix it up in a bucket or a concrete mixing tray. Using a string and a level, trowel on some stiff grout on the existing blocks, being sure to butter up the edges as well. Using a firm rubber mallet, carefully tap the blocks into place, being sure to check for alignment along the way. Generally, we recommend that cement block walls should have horizontal and vertical rebar, with verticals well embedded into the footing. The wall should be poured full with a soupy grout mixture. If your wall wasn't built this way from the start, adding rebar may be more difficult. The size and spacing of rebar depend on expected lateral loads. Retaining walls and footings, for example, must be properly engineered to withstand overturning moments induced by the ground behind the wall. Builders Websource.
