Wet Subflooring beneath toiletFrom: drathaar@rochester.rr.com Category: Bath Remote Name: 24.58.119.84 Date: 15 Jun 2002 Time: 03:03 PM
CommentsI removed the toilet to replace the wax seal after I saw water leaking into the basement between the cutout and the drainpipe of the toilet.
I found the wood directly under the toilet is wet and soft. This bathroom is carpeted so I don't know if any more of the subfloor is damaged.
To further complicate matters the drain pipe is copper and the flange is not flush with the floor. There is a gap between the floor and the bottom outermost rim of the closet flange of about 5/16" all the way around.
The two closest floor joists beneath the subfloor are about 8.5" on one side and 2.75" on the other side from the toilet drain pipe. Although I see water marks on the plywood, I don't think the floor joists are damaged.
I do not know how to sweat copper pipes, especially a pipe that is 3-4" diameter. What would be the best way to fix this problem?
Thank you in advance.
