surface bonding cementFrom: jorika@sover.net Category: Concrete Remote Name: 170.222.20.164 Date: 21 May 2002 Time: 11:59 AM
CommentsWe are building a dry stack cement block house, and using surface bonding cement from American Stone-Mix, Inc., to bond the surface. While most of the bonding was done last fall, we need to do a few small corners and touch-ups inside the house, and later this summer will put up rigid foam insulation on the outside and then bond over it.
Our question is: how long do we need to wait after we bond to put cement stain over the bonding material???? We've called American Stone-Mix, Inc., in Towson, MD, and even their technician didn't know the answer. On the stain can, it says to wait 28 days for newly poured concrete--does bonding cement need the same as poured concrete? If we are doing small patches, is 28 days still necessary? On a different paint can, it says to wait only 7 days for cement to cure before painting (is paint that much different than stain?). We would love to be able to do the smaller patches sooner, in order to finish the inside and move in. The biggest patch inside that we are re-doing is a door frame: the area of the end of blocks stacked 12 high (about 8 inches across by 8 feet high).
We would appreciate any wisdom on this!
Thanks,
Jo and Barry
