Building a full basement under an existing home is an art in structural engineering. Since each situation is totally unique, we are not aware of a specific reference on this topic. Generally, it invovles a series of interim supports (sometimes with steel beams), careful excavation and proper foundation engineering and waterproofing. Sometimes the outer concrete walls are "blown in" from within the building perimeter since exterior access may be limited or impractical. It is essential to have a proper drainage system to convey water away from the foundation, otherwise you could end up with a wet basement. We strongly urge you to consult with a structural engineer before attempting such a project and leave it to an experienced professional to do the excavation and shoring up of the structure.
