The existence of mold on your Colorlok siding could be the result of a number of conditions. First, mold tends to grow on surfaces exposed to moisture. It's not uncommon to find mold on stucco, siding, roof tiles, or other surfaces which are frequently exposed to dampness. A mild bleach solution or a bleach and Jomax mixture can help to remove mildew from a range of surfaces (always test an inconspicuous area first). However, a number of class action lawsuits have also been settled with manufacturers of fiberboard wood siding products. In 1998, Masonite (the manufacturer of Colorlok siding) settled a class action suit in which product failure was alleged, including rot and premature deterioration. More details of the lawsuit argued in the Alabama circuit court of Mobile County can be found at http://www.masoniteclaims.com/ While this lawsuit does not specifically address mold, the presence of mold is indicative of a moisture condition which, if left untreated, could result in premature failure of your siding. Replacement of damaged siding is essential to preventing more severe interior moisture damage to your home. Builders Websource.
