Levelling a subfloor temporarily and cheaplyFrom: fl0rrie@hotmail.com Category: Flooring Remote Name: 67.2.92.211 Date: 28 Apr 2002 Time: 11:32 AM
CommentsA LITTLE BACKGROUND:
I'm buying a little house that the previous owner fixed up, but quit at levelling the subfloor. Room-by-room, it will eventually have to be ripped out, a new foundation poured, and a new LEVEL subfloor built back in. Beacause the house was originally built in 1907, it sits on granite blocks, not on a concrete foundation, so over the years, it has dropped here and there and is now just a lumpy mess.
Until I get the money to do it RIGHT, here's
MY IDEA FOR A TEMPORARY SOLUTION:
Build the floor up to it's highest point with sand, then screw down large sheets of plywood. If you want to reserve the plywood to keep costs down later, spray a coat of 3M over the plywood and place plstic sheeting over it. You can leave the plastic sheeting on and use it for your new subfloor later. Apply the least expensive flooring you can live with until it's time to do the job right in a few years; carpet is easiest to remove, but with the plastic sealed over the plywood, you could lay 12 inch square vinyl in the kitchen, bath and laundry rooms.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND ME YOUR COMMENTS ON THIS IDEA!!! Thanks!
