Re: Romex® wires run between Joists

Assuming you have clear access to the area between the joists, we do not condone the practice of resting the wires on the wallboard. The Romex® should be secured to the joists, out of the way of rogue nails or screws that could penetrate the joists or drywall. Generally a 1.5" clearance is sufficient. Alternatively, you could run metal flex conduit for each of your runs, however the conduit should also be supported according to the electrical code. Don't cut corners when it comes to electrical safety. Do the job right and in accordance with the electrical and local building codes in your area. Builders Websource.
