I have just finished construction on a barn. It is a pole barn on a monolithic concrete slab. I had to cut into a hill (5' cut) in order to level the barn. I am developing a drainage plan to keep surface water away from the slab. I have purchased your article on the french drains. I would like you to review my plan and make suggestions. I am slopping the grade away from the concrete slab. I plan to put in a 2' trench about 4' from the slab. I am going to use a plastic sheet from the slab to the trench. I will put in 3" perforated PVC pipe wrapped with "weed shield" (allows water to penetrate). I will put the PVC pipe in the trench on the plastic and then cover with course sand for aobut 1'. I will cover the rest of the trench and the plastic to the slab with 1" rock. The barn will have gutters and the downspouts will end on top of the trench. The PVC pipe will be angled to allow the flow of the water.
