I am wanting to remove the upper half of a less than 5ft. section of load-bearing, center wall from between the kitchen and living room of my classic ranch style home. The plan is to create a bar-top, pass-thru more conducive to entertaining. The section we want to remove will extend from the existing doorway to the end of kitchen wall. By taking out the header support created by the doorway, will I need to build a new header extending the length of the door and pass-thru area?
