Re: weight bearing wallFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: Structural Remote Name: 63.198.181.43 Date: 29 Mar 2002 Time: 11:09 PM
CommentsGiven the questionable structural condition of your cabin and not knowing what kind of wind, snow or seismic loads might exist in your area, we can't be specific as to the design recommendations. In principle, however, the wall you refer to could be removed so long as you rebuilt the roof structure to properly support the roof and ceiling load above it. This also assumes that the existing cabin foundation is designed to handle the added loads imparted after removal of the wall. Given the new span, an engineered truss design might work best in this condition. Since safety is always the number one priority, don't attempt this design feat yourself without professional assistance. The last thing you need is to have the cabin roof fall on your head while you're trying to support it! Builders Websource.
