You're correct that you shouldn't be eating up sandpaper at the rate you describe. Have you checked the speed of the drum sander to be sure it's not set improperly? What does the rental shop say? Have them show you how to properly setup the sander to make sure you're not doing irreparable damage to your floor. Builders Websource
