demolition of internal load bearing wall

What would be the safest way to demolish an internal load bearing wall, which has a chimney/fireplace in it? My builder states that there is no need to cut holes for needles in the upstairs bedroom in order to support the wall and chimneybreast upstairs....please could you advise me on this matter. Thank you.
