I would like to find the most cost effective solution. the question I would like to change the beam in my house to one that will span 28'8 between bearing points and one post or column in the center existing conditions are 6"x8" wood beam supported in 4 places , a total span of 28'8 insid poured concrete 8" thick , joists are 2x8 spanning 26'6 1 1/2 story frame(balloon) and a 10/12 pitch roof the proposed is using a 4"x 10x19 steel beam with 1 support centered exactly there is a footing already in the center that measures 3'x3'x8" which an old brick chimney was on (35' tall) can anyone help? thanks bob
