While it wouldn't be appropriate for us to do all the research for your school report, we can provide a few tips! The salary range for a carpenter in the US varies widely depending on skill level and geographic location. For example, several "job postings" online show annual carpenter wages ranging between $16,000 and $32,000 per year, with little more than a high school education required. Some city positions, such as with the Los Angeles Unified School District have openings paying over $48,000 per year with full benefits. A self-employed, highly skilled specialized woodworker could earn even more in some areas, like the San Francisco Bay Area where wages are among the highest in the country.

Generally, only on-the-job training is required, although there are schools that specialize in trade skills training.

As to the tools required for the job, all it takes is a quick walk through the tool section of Home Depot and you'll get a good idea of the tools of the trade. For example, a well equipped carpenter's toolbox will contain a circular saw, a reciprocating saw, a range of hammers, punches, files, tape measures and markers, chalk line, framing square, levels of various lengths, a power screw gun, plus a range of other hand tools such as screw drivers, nail pullers, etc. Increasingly popular now are laser levels, transits, and other laser leveling devices that speed up leveling of foundations, grading, installation of drainage pipe and plumbing, cabinets and much more.

Of course, rudimentary forms of carpentry have been around since the stone ages. But the job is certainly much easier today with companies like DeWalt, Makita, Skil and others who make great tools that run on AC power or batteries. With more emphasis now on worker productivity, there's a specialized tool for almost any job.

We hope this helps a little for your report! For more information, we recommend conducting a search on the WWW using our search engine above. You can search for most any topic...

Good luck!
