Depending on your needs, the Delta 22-580 planer is a good tool and has generally received positive reviews. It offers two speeds and compares favorably to other planers in its class. However, if you are a serious woodworker and not just a weekend hobbyist, you might also consider the Hitachi P12RA -- which is considerably more expensive, but has received rave reviews for quality and consistency as good as it gets. On the lower end, DeWalt also makes a good tool that's an excellent value of the money....take a look at the DeWalt 733 planer. All of these are available from Amazon.com at competitive prices. Go to: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/buildingadreamco and type in the words PORTABLE PLANERS into the search box. You can read the numerous customer reviews of each product.
