A few questions: Is the jack-pole temporary...and you will replace the original support pole after your renovation? Also, can you tell me more about the I beam. Specifically, how deep is it (from top of flange to bottom of lower flange? How wide is the flange? How thick is the steel?

Also, what else is the beam supporting above? Is it supporting any point loads, such as a load-bearing wall, a roof, or anything else other than the floor? If it's just the floor, can you say what the dimensions of the floor are?

In general, we would be very cautious about removing a center support for a 30-foot IBEAM unless you have ample reinforcement to handle the load and prevent either excessive deflection, or outright failure. However, a little more information will help us...
