I am planning to finish my basement and I have a single I-Beam (steel/Iron?) that is roughly 30' long, supported on both ends by the concrete walls of my basement. At about the 15' mark along the I- beam, there is a steel pole support that is about 7' high from the concrete floor to the I-beam. (It does look like it is anchored in the concrete floor, and it's about 5" in dia.) Can I support the I-beam with a Heavy Duty Jack pole about 6' away from the original support and remove the pole without suffering any significant house damage?
