Re: Connecting sump pump waste to the sewer lineFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsGenerally, most plumbing codes or local codes prohibit connection of a sump pump to a sewer line. The volume of water can quickly overload the sewer system, causing it to overflow. The storm drain system is a separate system and is designed for high volume water runoff. In your case, you have only a few choices. Generally, sump pumps can drain to either a storm drain system (with a check valve to prevent backup), or they can drain to a "bubbler", which is above grade...with an outlet tube that flows by gravity to the street gutter (which then carries the water to the storm drain). If neither of these are options, your best bet is to find a spot well away from the house (and away from your neighbor's lot), which slopes away from your foundation...and pump it out. The problem with drainfields in heavy clay is that they don't drain well. For additional information, read our online technote on drainage available under our TechNotes section.
