Re: Drum Sander for Hardwood Floor RefinishingFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsOne of the leading suppliers of drum sanders is Alto, who owns the Clarke - American brand of floor sanders. They offer several products in both 8" and 12" configurations, which you can find on their website at http://www.alto-online.com under the "products => sanders => professional sanders" links. As to the size, the 8" version is easier to maneuver around the floor, but the 12" version covers more area faster which may be important for large jobs, like basketball courts. For occasional use, the 8" version should be fine for your application. To find a used on, we recommend several possible sources: 1) Check ebay from time to time. We just checked now and found 1 Used 8" Clarke floor sander up for bid. The auction ends in two days from today for this particular item. 2) Ask your local rental shop if they have any used sanders for sale. Often they will sell reconditioned equipment for a good price. 3) Call the manufacturer to see if they have any used demo units or factory refurbs/returns. Often they can point you to some used inventory somewhere. 4) Contact several hardwood refinishing stores in your area. They might just have one they want to sell. New units can cost several thousand dollars, so be prepared to spend for a good product. However, you might be able to find a used one for $500-$1,000 depending on its condition. Don't settle for something that doesn't work well. You don't want to damage your floor! Let us know which path pans out for you. Builders Websource
