Dry well: final stepFrom: mkrafala@bcpl.net CommentsA little advice on specifics? The problem: My 40 year old dry well for sump pump and laudary backed up. A little investigation found the last six feet of pipe entirely jammed. The dry well itself was just a pit filled with gravel, which was all gummed up. The Solution: I've dug out the gravel, and dug the hole deep enough to put in a 55 gallon drum (my neighbor had a plastic one lying around. My questions: 1) How big/how many holes should I drill in the plastic drum for drainage? 2) What's the best stone to fill it with that will give me the most volume? Or should I leave it partly empty and just cover the top? 3) How much gravel should I leave around the barrel? Is half a foot enough, or is this a "depends on the soil" question (a lot of clay)? In any event, this one should be better than what was there. mike
