Recaulking tub

We just had out bathroom remodeled in August of 2000 and the silicone caulk
is molded and pulled away from the surround. It looks like the surround is not
even touching the tub. Should I call the contractor back to replace it? I can
re-caulk it myself, but have questions about how best to fill in the 1/4 to
1/2" gap. Did the caulk shrink or was this just poor workmanship all
around. Suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.
