Do NOT use Liquid Nails for the application you describe. Liquid Nails is a construction adhesive, not a filler for rotted wood.

A high quality epoxy filler is what you need, such as Smith and Company's Fill-It. You must follow proper procedures, which can be found at:

http://www.rotdoctor.com or http://www.advancedrepair.com

Smith's site also has good technical information about the process of wood restoration. Go to http://www.smithandcompany.org for additional information.

For best results, remove any paint in the area you plan to restore. Brush on Smith and Company's CPES, or Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer, which restores rotted wood and and helps to bond with the filler. CPES is a two-part clear epoxy sealer/resin that absorbs into the wood fibers, creating a chemical bond. After the CPES has thoroughly dried (usually 1-2 days), fill the area with the two-part epoxy filler, let dry, and sand smooth. With a good base primer (such as Zinsser Bullseye) and 1-2 tops coat of fresh paint, your door will look as good as new.
