Re: Redoing uneven bathroom floorFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsIf you plan to float your floor with a mortar base and wire reinforcement, then you can build up the depressed area so that the entire mortar bed is completely level. This makes your best base for tile. However, if you can't afford the extra thickness of a mortar bed, then you can use a self leveling concrete, such as EZ Flow (or other similar material) available from tile stores or Home Depot. Once this has cured, you can use cement backer board such as Wonderboard or Hardibacker as an underlayment for the tile. This needs to be secured to the wood subfloor with thinset mortar and screws or galvanized roofing nails or staples. Be sure to carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions when using backboard.
