I've had a geophysicist survey the property. The soil in not expansive, but reported as 'gravely silty sand'. There is no seismic danger, but I plan to use Simpson tiedowns at the slab and at top to provide wind-force strength. Neither are required locally. The tech report says at 1.5 feet and below there are native soils. It further says, "Allowable bearing pressure 2000 psf at 18", 2500 psi @ 24". The test pits indicate 98.4 to 103.7 pcf at 1.5' I can give you other test data as needed. The plan is to use a monolithic pour, with 2 pcs #3 rebar at the footing base and one #3 higher up. Also, either #10 6x6 remesh or #3 rebar on 16" centers in the slab, along with fibermesh. Construction will be both 6" KC Panels (SIPs) (www.kcpanels.com) with polyurethane insulation and 6" steel studs, with stucco over OSB and gyp surfaces. My particular question is largely the advisability of 'floating' the slab over the beams. I'll appreciate any other suggestions and/or questions.
