Re: Deck FramingFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsBased on the load figures you provided, the dead load is at its peak where you have the hot tub:
Assuming a live load of 40 PSF and dead load of 60 PSF (Total load = 100 PSF)...and assuming no snow load, your choice of (3) 2x6 Pine beams on 4' centers checks out fine using BeamChek. You might be able to get by with (2) 2x6, but since the wood is pressure treated, it is somewhat weaker, so staying with (3) 2x6 will be more than ample and will provide a very sturdy platform. You can use (1) 2x6 on 16" centers to brace the deck and help transfer the load to the beams. (You suggested 12" centers which is fine if you want an even stiffer surface). We recommend running the deck surface at a 45 degree angle to the joists for best strength and lateral support. Sounds like a fun project! Good luck. Builders Websource
