I submitted this question before and THANK YOU for the reply, however I am afraid that I need a more precise answer if possible. Firstly, let me say that I did indeed check out BeamChek and it seems like a TOP NOTCH program, however, it seems as though it is designed for a structural engineer, and if I was one it would have helped me I am certain. My project is a free-standing 17'x 24' single story structure. It sits atop a foundation comprised of 13 courses of 8" concrete block. I am using common trusses, 2x6 exterior framing. There will be no storage in the attic. The roofing materials are 1/2" CDX ply with #60 felt and 25 Yr Owens Corning shingles. Interior walls will be finished with 1/2" sheetrock. And flooring will be 3/4" t&g ply (with carpet of course) I am situated in Northeast Penn. It seems to me that the beam suggested in your first reply is WAY overkill as ALL of my dead load will be transferred to the exterior framing. Live load will be minimal as this area will only be used as a bedroom and living room area when the project is completed. My goal is to keep the 15.75 span clear in the basement. I am only trying to be more detailed as in your first reply you said that more information was needed. Thank you again in advance.
