Dry Rot in Rafter Tails

There is visible dry rot damage to the V-groove boards and the rafter tails around the circumference of my 1900 sq. ft. home.

I recognize that the full extent of the damage cannot be assessed until the areas of damage are completely exposed, but I need to know how to repair the rafter tails in particular. I've done just about everything in construction, but joining new pieces into rafters is something new to me.

How do I join/repair rafter tails?
