To Steel or Not to SteelFrom: donsplace2000@yahoo.com CommentsUsing a monolithic (turndown stem) pour, we've gotten conflicting advice from equally qualified people - engineers, PCA advisors, contractors, etc. We'll have fiber glass fill. The slab will be on non-expansive, tested, 110# compact undisturbed soil. The advice has varied: No steel; Rebar in stem only; Rebar in stem and remesh extending 4' into slab; Rebar in stem and remesh across 100% of the slab; Rebar in stem plus #3 rebar on 30" center, tied, across entire slab. I should add that the slab will be the finished floor - stained - in a residence. Is there an empirically better way to build the foot/stem/slab that won't rise to an astronomical cost? Don
