Re: broken double pane windowFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsGenerally, it should be possible to replace just the double-pane glass assembly of your window. These are vacuum sealed at the manufacturer, requiring a special process. This keeps moisture out. Therefore, you can't just replace the one pane of broken glass, since you'll never get a proper seal, resulting in condensation between the panes. However, some inexpensive vinyl windows are made such that replacement of the glass assembly is too difficult without damaging the welded vinyl components. Sometimes replacement of the entire sash is required, or in worst case, the whole window. (This would be a last resort only). Do you know who the original manufacturer is? If you can determine the manufacturer (sometimes you'll see something on the window hardware, the corner of the glass, etc.), contact them to explain your problem. They can instruct you on the best approach to repairing the window with the least trouble. If it's a major national brand (such as Andersen, etc.), they often have local reps who will make a courtesy housecall to help you out. Builders Websource
