Re: Removing oil based paint on sheet cushion flooringFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsAre these small "specks" of paint or is it a massive spill? Generally, mineral spirits (paint thinner) is used to dissolve oil-based paints. However, before you try this, use a piece of scrap flooring or find an inconspicuous area to test first. You want to avoid a possible chemical reaction with the floor surface. Using a clean terrycloth rag, apply a modest amount of mineral spirits to a small area to be sure there is no immediate reaction to the floor's surface. If you pass this test, apply the same procedure to the area in question. Depending on the severity of the spill, you may need more than one application. When you're done, flush the floor thoroughly with warm soapy water to remove any remaining residue or thinner. If there is any sign of reaction with the thinner and the flooring material, stop immediately to avoid further damage to the test area. In the worst case scenario, you may need to replace sections of the damaged surface if cleaning solvents don't work. Builders Websource
