Re: Do-it-yourself awning/trellisFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsBefore you drill holes in your concrete slab to support a homemade awning, you might consider some of the high quality retractable (manual or motorized) awnings available on the market, such as those at Our neighbor has a high quality retractable awning (about an 8-10 foot overhang by 20 feet wide). Not only is it elegant, but since it's easily retractable, you can change the look of your back porch at the touch of a button. Depending on the size and fabric you select, these awnings can run from a thousand dollars to several thousand dollars. If you go this route, select a very high quality mechanism that won't sag over time. It's worth the extra expense, but your awning will last for many years. Also, the motorized adapter is handy and worth it in our opinion. If you're so inclined, you can order these awnings and do the installation yourself. Ask the vendor for the recommended mounting instructions based on your particular structural conditions. Builders Websource
