Stained hardwood floors...From: kraihn@suptech.com CommentsWe recently purchased a 38 year old home and decided to remove the carpet and have the Red Oak floors refinished. The floors were previously finished with a dark stain, except for one room which had a natural finish. The people sanding the floors just finished the coarse and medium sanding and noticed lots of discoloration. The discoloration is everywhere except in the room that had not been stained dark. Also, you can see areas that are not discolored where the previous owners furniture was. The guys sanding the house said the discoloration is from pet stains and there is nothing they can do about it. I find it hard to believe that the pets stained the entire house except the one room that wasn't finished with a dark stain. Could walking on dark stained floors over many years have caused the stain to penetrate deeper into the wood? If so, would sanding deeper solve the problem? Is there anyway to get the floors to look better? Can they be bleached? Thanks in advance for any help. Kurt Raihn.
