Re: Cleaning construction adhesive - Liquid Nails or PL400From: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsRemoving dry construction adhesive from sheetrock, such as Liquid Nails or PL400 (or equivalent), can be a painstaking process. First, carefully try to remove any large clumps with a sharp razor blade or putty knife, being careful not to damage the sheetrock surface. Next, try using paint thinner (mineral spirits) or a caulk and adhesive remover such as Liquid Nails LN595 or similar product. Wear gloves since this will be a tedious and messy process and be sure to provide ample ventilation. Using clean white rags, apply generous amounts of solvent to the area and let it soften the adhesive. After a few applications, you should be able to wipe most of it away, although a residual stain or thin layer may persist. Clean up with warm soapy water. Prior to painting, you may need to repatch the ceiling with a thin layer of sheetrock mud...and sand to a smooth finish (assuming your ceiling is smooth). Then, apply a good primer and paint as you normally would. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck! Builders Websource
