Re: Veneer plaster: texturing a new ceilingFrom: info@builderswebsource.com CommentsWith your mention of "blueboard," I assume you're referring to a wall and ceiling system using "veneer" plaster. Blueboard is a specially formulated wallboard system specifically designed for thin veneer plaster finishes. The special paper absorbs the moisture as the plaster is applied, assuring proper adhesion. The overall finish is about 1/16" of an inch or more, depending on whether you opt for a smooth finish or a textured one. The following online guidelines from Hometime point out the process you can use to ensure a properly finished surface. By splashing a little water on your final coat, you can create a hard-trowel finish void of seams or ridges. Personally, I love the look of the veneer plaster. It gives the warmth and character of traditional plaster walls at a price point between regular sheetrock and plaster. Mixing in pigments with the final coat can give a subtle, aged look, like an old Tuscan villa. Check out: http://www.hometime.com/projects/howto/lowerlev/pc2low4.htm Also, go to the US Gypsum website at http://www.usg.com/ and search for additional information on veneer plaster systems and accessories.
